- In 1810 Miguel Hidalgo a spanish preist encouraged Spain’s lower classes to rise in great numbers to join his revolt for equal rights. Soon they had captured portions of New Spain.

- August 1813 the Republican Army battled the Spanish south of San Antonio near the Medina River. Commanded by General Joaquin de Arredondo, the Spanish overwhelmed the Republican Army and won a complete victory.
