- My aunt told me about my grandfather's grandfather Deforest Darling aka Reverend D.C Darling. the Spiritualist minister and faith healer that become became a sought upon healer people would travel states to meet.
- I was told that he wanted to Mary a girl in town however her father denied him due to his poorness so he entered the Michigan Volunteer Infantry set to fight the Spanish American War however stationed in Florida for training his infantry fell sick, 20 out of 96 died.. Including Deforest.

- Volunteers assisted in throwing the bodies in a mass grave in Florida, however they found a body breathing... Which was Deforest. Taken in by a local family to heal he was given a bible which began his spiritual journey and when strong enough he returned to Michigan.

- Once he returned he spent his time speaking, praying over the ailing, and gained a pretty significant following.
