- The day had arrived. I was standing on the stage set to be the first one to spell, with everyone's piercing eyes looking at me. My mind went blank and all I could focus on were everybody's eyes on me, and my dad front and center. Although he said it wasn't a big deal I didn't want to let him down.
- During elementary school, I got picked to participate in my school's spelling bee. I was filled with emotions mainly nervousness that I was going to embarrass myself, but my dad told me to relax, that it wasn't a big deal so that's what I did, I relaxed and studies the word list..
- ok Melenin, whenever you're ready, please spell "Disguise"!

- When I heard that word, many thoughts ran through my head, none of them were the correct spelling of "Disguise." I didn't want to say, "I don't know", that seemed bizarre, so I guessed. My voice trembled as I spoke out the letters one by one, getting stopped suddenly by the administrator's voice and that's when my heart sank I had accepted it a long time ago but i was embarrassed that I was out on my first try.

- When it was time for the students to meet with their parents, my dad didn't want to speak with me. When he simply shook his head in disappointment to acknowledge me, many emotions and thoughts rushed through me, the main ones being that I was a failure and realizing that the spelling bee was a big deal to him for whatever reason.
- Though I had so many feelings when seeing him, I didn't know what to say to him either nor how I should've reacted to his disapproval. I did however reflect in my homeroom class, my tears falling realizing I should've done better.
