  • Hello, I am going to tell the history of some representative places of the city of Guayaquil.
  • The city of Guayaquil has many representative sites
  • Now we are in Las Peñas, a very representative place of Guayaquil that has very interesting data and I am going to tell you about it. Did you know that Las Peñas was declared Cultural Heritage in 1982, for being the most representative urban architectural complex of the beginning of the century.
  • The origins of the Las Peñas neighborhood date back to the mid-17th century, when houses began to be built towards the river, on the slopes of Santa Ana hill, and in the 18th century it was one of the sectors or neighborhoods into which the city was divided, along with the New City, the Old City, the Bridge neighborhood, the Lower neighborhood, the Shipyard neighborhood, and the New neighborhood, among others.
  • Already in the 19th century, the 1858 map drawn by Manuel Villavicencio identifies it as a succession of houses along a single street that extended from La Planchada to the north -within the Old City-, in the lower part of Santa Ana hill, next to the Guayas River.
  • And my reflection is: It can teach us how we emerged from long before and how we defended ourselves over the others to be able to found ourselves and be what we are now.
