During the winter storm, Mr. White and his son Herbert play chess. Mr. White trys to hide his mistake from Herbert. A knock is at the door.
Sergent-Major Morris tells Mr. White about the monkey's paw. Mr. White is curious and questions the solider about the paw. Morris tells him that it was from a monk in India. He says to Mr. White that two people have used it and only one person can use it now.
Mr. White is given the pw and he wishes for $200. Herbert leaves for work and they go on with their day. Herbert dies at his job. A postman informs the Whites andgets compensation.
The Whites moun the death of their son and forget the paw. Mrs. White begs her husband to wish for their son back. A few nights later, a knock is at the door and Mrs. White goes for it believing it is Herbert but Mr. White is too scared.
Mr. White trys to hold back Mrs. White. She trys to get free and to the door and breaks free of Mr. Whit's grasp. She can't reach the chain to let in the vistor.
Mr. White finds the paw. He uses his last wish to turn everything back to normal and the knocking stops. The night snow roars on but Herbert never came back.
