Storyboard Text

  • At the very beginning of the book, Ponyboy was walking home from the movie theatre and he got jumped by five Socs. "I was backing up, away from that knife. Of course I backed into one of them. They had me down in a second" (5). This shows the fear of Socs and the violence Greasers face.
  • At the Nightly double, Two-Bit told Pony and Johnny Dally had slashed Tim Shepard's car tires and said "Tim'll fight fair if Dally don't pull a blade on him" (29). This proves the point there is a lot of violence in The Outsiders, Greasers will just have a fistfight to settle a dispute.
  • When Two-Bit, Johnny, and Pony were walking Cherry and Marcia home, six Socs drove up and started shouting at the two of them and then at the three boys, Two-bit pulled out his blade and gave Pony a busted pop bottle. " He snatched up an empty bottle, busted off the end, and gave it to me, then reached into his back pocket and flipped out his switchblade" (45).
  • Enough Socs to fill a car attacked Johnny and beat him to near death, for no reason at all. "Johnny's face was cut up and bruised andswollen, and there was a wide gash from his temple to his cheekbone ... "There was a whole bunch of them" ... "A blue Mustang full"" (32).
  • A popular hangout spot for Greasers was the drive-in The Dingo where there was almost always a fight but most usually left when weapons got pulled out. " Then we went across the street and down Sutton a little way to The Dingo. ... and the greasers go to The Dingo and to Jay's. ... The Dingo is a pretty rough hangout; there's always a fight going on there" (19).
  • Dally asked Two-Bit for his switchblade because he knew the only way he would be able to see Johnny was by threatening the nurses and doctors. ""Two-Bit, you still got that fancy black-handled switch?""Yeah.""Give it here"" (125).
