My name is Kirk Clendening. I have been a Texas State Game Warden for 15 years. After serving in the Marine Corps, I decided to be a Game Warden and fulfilled the bachelors degree requirement with a Criminal Justice Degree. The academy was difficult to get into with the number of applicants that applied, but after the physical readiness test and interviews I made it in. The academy was approximately 7 months long, and we received state law enforcement training as well as specialized training. The specialized training focused on the equipment we use as game wardens as well as the wildlife laws we're responsible for After graduating, I was first stationed in Zapata County before eventually transferring to Rusk County. I have been serving here for the past 10 years.
Sir, all vessels must have a life jacket for everyone on board. Regardless of how far off the bank you are or how long you're out for. Also, all children under 13 must be wearing it while underway. You will be issued a citation today for a child under 13 with no life jacket
On a typical lake day, my partner and I ensure that everyone is following the rules and has the proper safety equipment on their vessel. Not everyone is happy to see us, but we take our safety regulations seriously, especially when children are involved.
I may also work alone and/or on land. I see a lot of regulars when checking fishing licenses and as long as I treat the respectfully they'll often cooperate happily, even if I gave them a ticket before.
Hey Warden! We got those licenses like we promised! You won't catch us without one again!
