- Once upon a time Britain controlled the original 13 American colonies. They did not have self-government. This meant that they could not govern themselves and make their own laws. On top of this the king made them pay extremely high taxes, even if the king had no involvement with the colonies.

- This was the first continental congress meeting on September 5th 1774. Where historical figures such as George Washington, John Adams, Samuel Adams, and Benjamin Franklin.
- It it unified the governing body that coordinated colonial resistance, managed the American Revolutionary War, and helped declared independence from Great Britain!

- The signing of the Declaration of Independence helped create a democracy by asserting principles like equality and unalienable rights, establishing popular sovereignty , and providing basis for a new nation on the idea of self-governance rather than monarchy.
