- Mildred, Montag's wife, doesn't love him. He isn't happy with his life and wants more, but he doesn't know what more is.

- Montag meets Clarisse. A young, thoughtful girl. She is a wanderer, constantly thinking.This girl leaves Montag in awe, causing him to think for his own, this makes him question everything.
- So this is what thinking for yourself is like? What is my life?
- There's so much more to life than you think.
- Beatty tells montag books are dangerous and cannot be trusted.
- They contradict each. Knowledge is power, people don't need power.
- But why do we do what we do? What's so bad about books?
- Montag and the firemen burn a lady and her house, in the process Montag steals a book.

- Beatty knows Montag has a book, he warns him about this. Evidently, Montag continues reading and his house is burned down. Beatty is killed in the process.
- Everyone gets curious but don't let books consume you.
- Montag outsmarts the new Hound they made to find him, he runs from Faber's house, and old man he met who helped him to read more, and makes his escape.
- Goodbye Montag.
