In The Monsters are Due on Maple Street by Rod Sterling, one of the main themes is mankind is its worst enemy. The first reason I know this is because everybody in the story blamed the others after Charlie had killed Pete because they said he was quick to kill because maybe Pete had evidence on who the monster was (PG 83). My next reason why mankind is their worst enemy is because in this story, it shows the people who have known each other for a long time and who have built many friendships with one another fight amongst themselves to find out who is guilty when the lights turned on in everybody's houses (PG 84). The third and final reason I know this is because they have no trust and faith in their fellow peers, so they start turning on each other when they had no one else to blame. In conclusion, mankind is it's own worst enemy in this show because they all blamed each other, tried to hurt the others, and had no faith and trust.(PG85)
