  • The Cask Of Amontillado Edgar Allan Poe
  • Exposition
  • Rising Action
  • Comic version by Adalynn Thomas
  • Climax
  • The narrator meets up with Fortunato, who is drunk, at a carnival. Fortunato is an enemy of the narrator, though Fortunato himself doesn't know it. The narrator smiles and pretends to be polite to Fortunato. He tells him that he has Amontillado in his vaults.
  • Falling Action
  • Montresor takes Fortunato down to his vaults. To keep Fortunato with him, Montresor brings up Luchesi and how he could ask him to taste the Amontillado instead of Fortunato. His friend, who wants to be better than Luchesi, keeps going, despite having a cold.
  • Resolution
  • They pass the bones of family members in the catacombs. To keep Fortunato believing that there is Amontillado, Montresor gives him wine. Fortunato did a gesture with his arm that was supposed to symbolize the Masons, but Montresor doesn't understand it. This makes Fortunato suspicious.
  • Montresor keeps persuading Fortunato to go farther down, even when they can no longer see in the darkness. He then chains Fortunato to a wall and begins to create a barrier surrounding him. Fortunato is no longer drunk and realizes what is going on. He screams, panicked and scared.
  • Right before the wall is finished, Fortunato thinks it is a joke. Montresor laughs along and almost completes his wall. When he hears nothing else, he puts the torch in, finishes the wall, and leaves.
