At one point Odysseus is tested by his men when they betray him. He gave them specific instructions that they didn't follow and he was blown off their route when they were almost home. They really tested his ability to forgive them, and to have patience with them.

Another time Odysseus was tested was when he saw his suffering dog when he returned to Ithaca. He couldn't see him because Odysseus was in disguise. I would say Odysseus learned to let go and he learned self control, but in a different way than normal.

Overall Odysseus' journey impacted his character very much. Over the course of the story Odysseus experiences lots of problems that teach him many lessons. Those lessons develop his character. He starts out the story ready to go home from the war. He would then start his journeys. In all of the stories that we used, Odysseus is tested in some way. As time moves on throughout the story we see that he values not only himself, but others. We think that Odysseus is very selfless which makes him such a good hero. Having so many failures throughout the story has built up his stamina to keep going, and to not quit when something goes wrong. He learns many lessons that strengthen his disposition. He also learned to adapt when things don't go his way. For the most part all of the stories in the Odyssey improve Odysseus' personality for the better, and he comes back to Ithaca as a hero.
