- Rome is located in Italy, it includes a peninsula and other islands in southern Europe. The Italian peninsula is shaped a lot like a boot. It reaches into the Mediterranean Sea with its toe pointed toward the island of Sicily.
- Influence of Etruscan Sports
- The twins uncle did not want them to take the throne so he ordered his men to drown them in the Tiber River. Before the twins drowned a wolf saved them and they grew up with the wolf. The twins decided to build a city were they grew up and Romulus killed his brother so he became king of the city.
- Influence of Greek Architecture
- The Romans were great builders and they adapted the arch and the cuniculus. The arches rested on two pillars, which supported a half-circle of wedge-shaped stones.A cuniculus was a long underground trench connected by vertical shafts above ground.
- Influence of Greek Art, Religion, Writing
- The Romans adapted harsh sporting events from the Etruscans. They would have two slaves fight one another to death. In the Roman stadium thousands of slaves died fighting as gladiators.
- The Romans adapted and borrowed ideas from the Greeks and Etruscans. The Romans used Greek designs in their own public buildings. They eventually learned to use concrete to create even larger structures, such as the Pantheon in Rome.
- Roman sculptors became skilled in creating lifelike portraits such as realistic busts, or statues showing the subject's head and shoulders. Early Romans had their own gods and rituals, but their ideas about the gods evolved as they interacted with other cultures. the Greek alphabet was adopted and then changed by the Etruscans.
