Ello, My name is Thomas Paine and I was born January 29, 1737, in Norfolk, England
In 1768, I began working as an excise officer on the Sussex coast. In 1772, I wrote his first pamphlet, an argument tracing the work grievances of my fellow excise officers.
In 1774, I met Benjamin Franklin who convinced me to move to the Americas.
My most famous pamphlet, “Common Sense,” was first published on January 10, 1776, selling out its thousand printed copies almost immediately. It proved to playing a crucial role in convincing colonists to take up arms against England
In April 1777, I worked for two years as a secretary to the Congressional Committee for Foreign Affairs and then became the clerk for the Pennsylvania Assembly at the end of 1779.
By the end of the American Revolution I found myself poverty-stricken because I refused any profits from my works. That being said Pennsylvania gave me £500 and New York a farm in New Rochelle. Here I devoted my time to inventions, concentrating on an iron bridge without piers and a smokeless candle.
