- Hi everyone!! Meet our new student Sarah!!
- She looks nice

- Thank you, I really like your hair.
- Sarah I'm sorry not everyone is being welcoming, I really like your outfit!
- Slide: 4
- Sarah has just moved to a new town and will be starting a new school. Her dad is a single dad who has just gotten a job in a new town. This neighborhood isn't like their last, it is a predominately white neighborhood.
- After recess Sarah talks to her teacher about feeling left out and not feeling apart of the community. Her teacher explains to her that her classmates are just scared of change.
- Your classmates are scared of change. Trust me, they will come around and start to understand just because you are different that doesn't make you bad.
- Slide: 5
- Sarah's teacher introduces her to the class. She is nervous to make new friends but she is excited
- Over the next few weeks, Sarah's classmates start to come around and pick her for activities.
- No I want Sarah on mine!!
- I want Sarah on my team!
- Slide: 6
- Sarah goes throughout the school day. No one talks to her or tries to get to know her...until gym class
- By the end of the year Sarah has made good friends and her friends now understand how they could have welcomed her better in their community.
- Yeah, we're sorry Sarah. We love that you are in our community and you are always welcome!
- Sarah we're so sorry we treated you badly when you first came, we were scared of change, you were different and now we know different isn't always bad.
