Curley enters the stable and picks up a fight with Lennie (incited by his visible physical inferiority and ability to take advantage of Lennie's disability). George, tells him to fight back, and doing so, Lennie breaks Curley's hand.
Get him Lennie! Don't let him do it!
On the weekend, while the men are forming part of a gathering, Lennie stays in the barn, where he takes care of a puppy that Slim (the leader of the grain team) has gifted to him. After accidentally killing the puppy by petting it too hard, Curley's wife comes to reassure him. This is the story's climax, as Curley's wife is killed.
