I went to confession so long ago, I forget how it works.
First, you need to examine your conscience. This is when we reflect on how we have hurt our relationship with God.

You also must be truly sorry for your sins, not out of fear, or consequence but for destroying your relationship with God.

Lastly be honest to the priest, so you can receive forgiveness. Remember to also do the penance given to you.
