Storyboard Text

  • My friend told me that she does not let her kids sleep with her. I chose to do so because it helps them sleep better, I don't have to get up throughout the night and it is easier for feeding the baby in the night.
  • Im glad you were able to come in today. Is there anything you wanted to discuss specifically?
  • I started co-sleeping with my son because it was easier to feed in the night. I just continued when my second child came along. I feel like it makes it easier for me and the children to co-sleep.
  • I can understand that. I do recommendto let them sleep in their own beds. This will reduce the risk of SIDS, developing anxiety or attachment disorders and better your night's rest.
  • The risk of SIDS is 10 times higher when a baby is sleeping in an adult bed. There are about 100 deaths per year from a parent laying on or suffocating a child when co-sleeping.
  • Wow I did not know those statistics. I know that I am not a deep sleeper and I don't move in my sleep. It worked with my son with no problems.
  • Well, he does like to be with me all the time and seems a bit stressed when I am not around.
  • It may have worked with your son while he was a infant. It still has greater risk factors for accident to happen. Also, co-sleeping can lead to attachment and anxiety disorders
  • Maybe you could just give it a try and see how it goes. It never hurts to try. Maybe this weekend when you do not have to take your son to preschool the next morning. It is a process though, so if you do try not co-sleeping just keep that in mind, especially since your son has been for years.
