- 3. Josh please get help, I was working and a rock hit my head.
- 4. I'm going to get our supervisor and assist you.
- 2. Sizwe! Are you okay? What happened?
- 2. We understand you're a busy man Kyle but Sizwe here got hit by a rock whilst being busy on site. This was caused by the fact that he did not have a helmet. This could have been me as I was not also issued one, or an form of Personal Protection Equipment.
- 4. Kyle how is it his fault that, anyone can be in an accident at work, you guys as the company should have given us our rightful PPE.
- 1. Sizwe, Josh what is it that is so importaant that you called me out for? I was in a very important call uyou know?!?
- 5. Well there is no PPE set out for you workers amd there's nothing you can do about that.
- 3. It is his fault that he was not careful enough not mine. he should be observant next time.
- 1. Josh what are we gonna do since Kyle doesn't want to assist us by giving us our PPE? Do you think we can get assistnce somewhere?
- 3. Do you mean the Building, Construction and Allied Workers' Union (BCAWU)? Do you think they ca assist us?
- 4. Yes Sizwe, they're our only hope. i know where their office is situated in town we should go there after we knock of from work.

- Josh and Sizwe are construction workers recently employed at Princeton Services Group which is a company that offers security service and construction services . They work without Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as it was not offered to them by the company. Sizwe gets an accident at work and gets hurt because no equipment protected him.

- Josh called out his supervisor to come lookout at the situation and to explain to him what had happened to his colleague Sizwe
- 1. Thank you so much for meeting up with me in such short notice. I'm here on behalf of two of your employees whom you refuse to give their PPEs. Why is that and do you know it is illegal to do so?

- 2. If ever they were careful enough they would not need any protection equipment. Now what must I do if they choose to be careless old men at work?
- Josh and Sizwe are sitting at the canteen discussing on a way forward about this matter they are facing.

- 1. Gentlemen like I promkised you that I shal resolve the matter, I did. We spoke with Kyle and he has agreed to give youall the PPE you require for your work.
- 2. That is true guys, your PPE is ordered and is on its way.
- Josh and Sizwe went to the BCAWU offices after the knocked off work to go seek for assistance.

- 2. Thank you for welcoming us Mandla. we have a a problem whereby my colleague seated next to you got in to an accident at work. He got hurt mainly because he did not wear any equipment protecting him to such danger. Still after this the company is still refusing to give us our PPE
- Mandla set up a meeting with Kyle to try and resolve the matter at hand which is the Princeton Services Group.
- 3. You are actually breaking the law and an act in conjuction with the LRA, you're breaking theOccupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993. If you do not stop what you are doing your company might be shut down.
- 4. I did not know I was breaking the law. I shall speak with the superiors and we will offer our employees the PPE they need. Thank you so much for coming through.
- A meeting was held after the matter was resolved. It was a success and everyone was happy.
