- "RULES OF THE GAME " AMY TAN
- Waverly and her mother have a rough love relationship as well as a habit of doing what her mother wants so that she is never punished.
- "Bite back your tongue "
- Waverly tricked her mother by pretending she did not want to play. in the tournament. She also used the tactic of the American rules and was scared to bring shame to the family.
- "Is shame you fall down nobody push you"
- Waverly was annoyed with what her mother said ,but could not have said anything. Her mother enjoys the fact that it seem liked Waverly obeyed.
- "Lost eight piece this time, Last time was eleven. What I tell you? Better off lose less! "
- "Ma , I can't practice when you stand their like that,"
- Waverly and her mother in this part is trying to show who has more power. In the end Waverly is triumphant because her mother obeyed, and she is not happy about.
- "Hmmmmmmph"
- Waverly couldn't talked to her mother because she always gets upset and misunderstands Waverly. The one time Waverly says how she feels it turned out to be an argument.
- "I wish you wouldn't do that, telling everybody I'm your daughter "
- "Aiii-ya . so shame be with mother"
- Waverly returned home and was ready to accept her punishment.
- "About time you got home "
