Ella, a harpy, tells Annabeth a prophecy of how she has to get the Mark of Athena that lies in Rome in order to complete her quest. This is important because it tells us the main quest and objective that she has to achieve.

This scene is important because Annabeth has met an old friend named Reyna, who lives in New Rome. While they are talking, Gaea makes the Argo II (Annabeth's ship) fire on New Rome, which makes Reyna not trust her and her friends anymore. Due to this, Reyna and the New Romans come after Annabeth and her friends to get revenge.

Hazel and Leo must grab a piece of celestial bronze from Narcissus, a god with a large ego, in order to repair the Argo II, their ship that is damaged. They manage to grab the piece of bronze without Narcissus looking, but have to fight off the fairies. This scene is important because the demigods wouldn't be able to continue their quest without repairing the ship first.
This scene is important because it is a turning point in the book. It shows Gaea taking control of Percy and Jason's mind to make them fight and try to kill each other, so that only one of them remains.
In this scene, Annabeth has to defeat Arachne, which is the guardian of the Mark of Athena that Annabeth has to retreive. Annabeth outsmarts Arachne and causes it to become tangled in it's own web. This scene is important because it finally allows Annabeth to retrieve the Mark of Athena to complete her quest.
