  • Help! We need help! The Savannah ecosystem is dying!
  • Why?!
  • Oh no!
  • How can we help!
  • You see, the Savannah was once bright and beautiful. But for some reason, year after year, we eventually saw less and less rain come through. Days began to heat with every hour and still, no rain! We need your help to find a way to restore water and the plants so we can survive!
  • The plan was that once they reach full land, Shamu would ride in a giant tank the rest of the way. Once they reach the savannah, Shamu would then spout water out of her blowhole so she could make it ¨rain¨. With this plan, they decided that they should also come by once a week to rewater the area so the area stayed hydrated.
  • This way!
  • Hare came all the way from his home looking for help.
  • (As the hare tells them what's going on): In the background, you can notice that there aren't any plants. The animals are tired and dehydrated.
  • Water! Oh,thank you all so much!
  • Anytime!
  • Along the way, Hare told them that an essential part of an ecosystem is water. Without it, the plants, such as trees, will die out leaving the animals without much oxygen. Hare: ¨During photosynthesis, plants convert sunlight (light energy) into chemical energy that can be made into carbon dioxide and water to help the plant live. They also need water to form glucose so they can feed themselves.¨
  • And we all lived happily ever after!
  • Once they arrived, they were devastated. Through this journey, they learned that because the plants were not able to feed themselves due to the lack of water, photosynthesis was unable to be performed.
  • Plants during this process make oxygen as a by-product. Without it, the cellular respiration (a process in which organisms breathe) can not happen because as the CR cell uses that oxygen to breakdown sugar, it allows organisms, such as Hare, Snake, Fox, and Shamu, to produce energy for their bodies.
  • Looking at the habitat, they felt they could do more to help the Hare and his friends. So, everyone decided to help replant new seeds for more plants to grow! After Shamu made it ¨rain¨ for a few more weeks, the plants finally grew back and the ecosystem was restored!
