Don Quixote and Sancho shared a room with the carrier. Meanwhile, Don Quixote imagines Maritornes being a princess and in love with him. Maritornes suddenly appeared in their room and Don Quixote assumes that the princess visits him without knowing that she already has an agreement to sleep with the carrier that night. Don Quixote grabs Maritornes saying that if he doesn’t love Dulcinea, he would pursue her. She is frightened and tries to escape.
After the carrier heard everything Don Quixote has said, he became jealous and punches Don Quixote. Maritornes heard that the innkeeper is going to the room and jumped to Sancho’s bedside to hide. Sancho was awakened and started to punch the figure. Maritornes fights back and the carrier tries to rescue her. The innkeeper also goes to her and tries to beat her up. Eventually, the Old Holy Brotherhood of Toledo heard the commotion. He saw Don Quixote lying and assumed that he is dead. He order the place to be locked up and soon, the others went to their bed. The officer decided to investigate the incident.
Don Quixote felt a lot better is ready to leave after drinking his own made blessed balsam while Sancho was left uncured and weak after drinking. Don Quixote said that the drink only works for a knight. Don Quixote helps Sancho to his donkey but the innkeeper arrives and asked them to pay for staying. Don Quixote insisted saying that the knights don’t pay. Sancho refuses to pay as well and so the guests grabbed him and toss him into the air using a blanket. Don Quixote heard Sancho and went back. After the guests let Sancho go, Maritornes bought wine for Sancho to drink. In the end, the innkeeper took Sancho’s saddlebags as a form of payment.
