Have you heard about the new abortion bill they just passed in Texas? Thank god they are finally doing something about that.
Why is that? Surely you don't think killing babies is alright?
Actually, I think the bill is a terrible idea.
Well for one, abortion is not "killing babies." A pregnancy is a fetus until birth. In fact, the bill bans abortion after a heartbeat is detected, but mediaclly speaking at this point a pregnancy isn't even viable.
Whether its killing or not, I still think abortion is wrong and there is no reason to go through with it.
There are tons of reasons a woman might want an abortion. Perhaps she isn't financially or mentally stable to take responsibility for a child. Or perhaps the pregnancy has put her life in danger.
But the bill leaves an exception for when pregnant women's lives are in danger.
In fact, this actually happened in Ireland in 2012. A pregnant woman was having complications, but because medial staff failed to step in and terminate the pregnancy, she died. This case actually caused the country to rethink their abortion laws.
This is true, but it also causes hesitancy among medical professional when a situation does arise. Health care providers may fail to act if a pregnant woman's life is at risk because they fear breaking the law.
Wow, this is a much more complex issue than I realized.
Absolutely, and that's just scratching the surface.
