  • French society was divided into three estates: the first state (clergy), the second estate (nobility), and the third estate (commoners and bougeoisie). Only the third estate paid taxes, causing widespread discontent and a sense of injustice.

  • On July 14, 1789, the people of paris stormed the bastille, a prision that symbolized royal oppresion. this event marked the beginning of the french revolution and became a powerful symbol of the fight for freedom and justice
