Welcome to my class Ruby. I know that you have had a rough time at your old school but that's all behind you, I'm sure you will be happy here. If you ever need anything, I will be here.
Thank you Miss Brown.

Girls, this is Ruby and she is new to this school. I know you will all be welcoming, kind and inclusive.
Like I'm going to welcome her. Haha!
Slide: 3
Ruby is anxious because it is her first day at her new school. She left her old school because she was bullied. Miss Brown has already made Ruby feel welcomed and more relaxed.
Hey Ruby, do you want to come sit with us?
OMG STOP! What are you guys doing? Since when did we allow losers to sit with us?
Yeah.

Miss Brown introduces Ruby to her class. The girls have mixed feelings about having a new girl in their class.
What are you talking about? She is not a loser, she is actually really nice!
Uhh fine! Be friends with her but I won't!
Yeah, I talked to her before and she is definitely not a loser!

Ruby's heart is racing again going into the cafeteria and not knowing who to sit with. Two girls in her class wave her over to sit with them but one seems to be less happy.
No problem, she can be really mean sometimes. She will come around, it's no excuse but sometimes she goes like this when she feels threatened.
Thanks guys, that was really nice of you.

Molly and Olivia defend Ruby and question Ange as to why she is calling Ruby a loser when she doesn't even know her.
Have you ever played volleyball?
You should definitely join our team and play with us tomorrow.
Yes, I love volleyball but I haven't played in a while.

Ruby approaches and thanks Molly and Olivia for standing up for her. She feels much safer knowing that her new friends will support her. Ruby has not experienced kids being brave enough to stick up for one another before.
Really good! I made two super nice friends. They stuck up for me when another girl was being mean. They even invited me to play volleyball with them tomorrow.
Hey sweetie, how was your day?

As the three of them walk home from school, Molly and Olivia invite Ruby to join their volleyball team. Ruby is not very confident in her ability but is thrilled to be included.
Thanks! This is so fun!
Your soo good Ruby!
Yeahh!!

Once Ruby is home, she is greeted by her mum and Simba. Ruby has an excellent relationship with her mum, whether she is feeling sad or happy, she can always express herself. She tells her mum about the positive relationships she has started to build.
Hey Simba, I have had the best couple of days at my new school. I am feeling a lot happier and I think I am going to sleep and eat as well as you tonight! Volleyball has helped me feel like I am part of the school. I wish you could have seen me play volleyball, Simba, I was the most confident I have ever been. I can jump sooo high!
Ruby expresses her feelings to Simba. In forming positive relationships with her new friends, Ruby has improved her SOCIAL and MENTAL wellbeing. In turn this has led to improved PHYSICAL health through playing volleyball. This is a cycle as volleyball links back to improve her social, mental and SPIRITUAL health. Her friendship has also led to improved physical health by reducing her physical symptoms of stress such as her racing heart. Now that Ruby is less stressed, her sleeping and eating is better and her COGNITIVE health (including her concentrating on school work) will improve.

Ruby is thrilled to have a common interest with her new friends. She feels more confident in her ability and contributed positively to the team. She also was also able to meet some new friends. Ruby wants to continue volleyball for the rest of the season and this will have a really positive impact on her PHYSICAL, SOCIAL and MENTAL health.
