The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street Theme; Fear and suspicion can be destructive.
In, The monsters are due on maple street, by Rod Sterling, one of the main themes is fear and suspicion can be destructive .An example that can support this them is when a bright light flashed in the sky, catching everyone's eyes and their suspicion causing them all to gather outside. When they gather outside everyone is curious about what it was until Tommy said something that got everyone riled up.Another reason is when Charlie shot Pete because Charlie thought he was a monster coming out from the shadows and was scared. This shows how Charlie was so scared that he shot Pete out of fear and a quick reaction.Lastly, in the begining when everyone was outside, charlie was blaming everyone who had something odd happen to them, causing every one to blame each other. This proves how fear of having an imposter among you can cause paranoia and get people to blame each other. This shows how the theme " fear and suspicion can be destructive" is relative to being the theme for this story.
