On December 17, 1903 the Wright brothers made the first control plane. They made four brief flights at Kitty Hawk. It was the first controlled powered flight in the world. They were then trying to get the military to invest into their planes.

The Wright Brothers submitted a bid to the U.S. war department to design a plane for $25,000. On September 3, 1908 Orville performed a test flight for the army. But the 17th a split propeller caused the plane to crash, injuring Orville and killing the rest of his Passengers. It was said that from the cause of the plane crashing was the reason that the military knew that their plane would work.

August 2, 1909 the wrights made an entirely new plane that met the requirements of 125 miles at a speed of 40 miles per hour and stay up for at least in hour. The signal corps accepted the Wright's plane as the world's first military aircraft. Which soon to be later planes would be able to fly longer.

June 15, 1919 Caption John Alcock and Lieutenant Arthur Brown for 16 hours was the first to fly non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean. People pushed plane technology to new heights, as air flights became a tool for war.

August 6, 1945 Enola Gray dropped an atomic bomb B-29bomber on Hiroshima, Japan that killed 80,000 people. They used the bomb so the U.S. would cut the war in the Pacific short. After the wars their were competition on flying records.
Amelia achieved many awards such as the first women to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Amelia was last seen July 2, 1937 Howland Island for her fueling stop. She was trying to fly around the world. Many theories are left for her disappearance.
