- One day in Johnny's town, the town board came together and made a new law that banned cookies. There were less and less bakeries in business and no access to cookies of any kind. No one even dared to drive out of town to get them; every citizen lived a cookie-free life.
- STRICTLY ANTI-COOKIE
- We hate cookies!
- Johnny’s mother was head of the board and the biggest advocate for this ban. Johnny dreamed of joining the board himself one day. Now that Johnny was older he thought he mother would let him take part on the board and be more involved with his community. She didn’t allow this and Johnny was upset.
- You? On the board? No way!
- Well, why not?
- Since Johnny had never tried nor been around cookies before, he never thought to break the ban. Following the argument, he wanted nothing more than to try a cookie to spite the board, the ban, and most of all, his mother.
- You have no idea how to be responsible!
- I HATE YOU MOM!
- Johnny rode the bus out of town for work one day, and at his stop, he saw a sign for free cookie samples. With the dispute in mind, he decided to try a piece. After trying and loving the cookie, Johnny bought a whole case of varying cookies.
- FREE COOKIE SAMPLES
- Johnny no longer stood with the ban and he rationalized this stance with his enjoyment of cookies. After trying them, he now understood why cookies were likable and viewed the law as unfavorable because he believed that everyone should at least try cookies. He began to illegally consume and sell cookies in the town and protest the ban.

- DEVIANT THEORIES EXPLAINED SOCIAL CONTROL THEORY:Johnny exhibits this theory because he breaks a bond with someone he admires and respects (his mother) who is also connected with the law that he later breaks. This broken bond causes him to try a cookie for the first time.DIFFERENTIAL ASSOCIATION THEORY: After trying the cookie and finding it delicious, Johnny realizes that the law is unreasonable and begins to rebel against it.
