Storyboard Text

  • Bananas are grown in Costa Rica because of the perfect growing conditions. It takes 12-13 weeks for a banana to grow. Bananas are harvested while still green so they ripen for consumers. They cut off the leafs from the plant and they provide nutrients for new plants. They have a cable system that carries the bananas to the center of the farm.
  • For quality control each train of bananas is labeled by number, location of harvest and the team that harvested it. The bananas are washed with chlorinated water and inspected. If they don't meet the requirements harvesting is immediately stopped. Banana hands are cut from the stem and soaked in water to remove extra latex. They then move to another station where they are inspected again and cut into clusters of 5-7.
  • They are removed from the water and placed in large trays. They are transferred on a conveyor belt where they then have the sticker placed on them. They then receive treatment to keep freshness. They are then ready to be boxed, the box's are made right on site. For quality control packers must mark each box they pack. Each box contains about 40 pounds of bananas and they are placed in a way to protect the bananas. They are being placed in big pallets that transport the bananas. Now you have bananas and the whole process from harvest to shipping out takes 2-3 hours only.
