- In Maycomb, Alabama lives the Finch family, Atticus, Scout, Jem, and their cook Calpurnia. Even in this time of depression the family is not struggling because Atticus is a prominent lawyer. Next door to the Finch's lives Aurthr(Boo) Radley and he never comes outside. All summer the kids try to talk to him and get him to come out of his house. Everytime he comes out they don't see him they only see what he has done.
- GUILTY
- A young black man by the name of, Tom Robinson, is accused of raping a white woman by Bob Ewell. Atticus is asked to defend him and he must over come the prejudice and preconceptions that the town has against Tom.
- During the trial Scout and Jem become the eye of the town because their father is defending a Negro. The children will do whatever they can to be at the trial and even sneak back in and sit in the colored balcony so they are not seen. They learn many valuable lessons such as justice and doing what is right.
- The final verdict is that Tom Robinson is guilty. Jem and Scout cannot believe how they are going to punish an innocent man. They talk to Miss. Maudie and she tells hem that thier were many people that tried to help Tom, like Judge Taylor. He chose Atticus to represnt Tom instead of the regular public defender.
- As Atticus is leaving the post office Bob Ewell approached him, cursed him, spat on him, and threatened to kill him. Mr. Ewell alos threatened the life of Helen Robinson. Tom Robinson was transfered to a different prisio and he tried running and escping but the guards sot and killed him. Atticus now has no chance for an appeal.
- Bob Ewell goes after Scout and Jem and attacks them. Boo Radley comes to their rescue and kills Bob under a tree with a kitchen knife. Mr. Radley doesn't need all of the attetion from the town so it is told the Bob Ewell killed himself. Boo Radley ends up saving the kids lives and Aticus thanks him for that. Scout walks Mr. Radley home that night and they never see him again.
