After Louis XIV death, France was in shambles. the country was in a lot of debt . When Louis XVI came to rise, he was a very bad ruler and lacked experience. He was also very indecisive. His wife Marie Antoinette would lavishly spend while the 3rd estate and the lower classes were horribly suffering.
The moderate phase of the French revolution took place at 1789-1892. France wanted to build a more better system. Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette had fled france in 1791 because the revolution was against the royal family. The Royal family also taxed the third estate more after they declared war on Austria and many protests occuted. This sparked the reign of terror
During the reign of terror, over 40,000 people were killed. This person who led this was Maximilian Robespierre. He would execute anybody that he thought didn't support the revolution. Most of the people killed were peasants and this was ironic because the revolution was supposed to give peasants and lower class citizens better rights.
