- GOOD DAY EVERYONE! Today let's talk about John Dalton.
- John Dalton was an English chemist, physicist, and meteorologist.
- so let's talk about what are the contributions of John Dalton in developing atom.
- In his time, scientist knew that element combained with each other in specific proportions form compounds.
- Dalton clained that the reason for this was because elements are made of atom.
- He developed methods for measuring the atomic weights of elements. That is undisputed.
- But his overall contribution is surprisingly controversial. The basis of his work was the belief that the chemical properties of substances were closely related to the sizes and weights of the atoms of the elements of which they were composed, which is common knowledge today but was not commonly realised in his day.
- Dalton's atomic theory proposed that all matter was composed of atoms, indivisible and indestructible building blocks. While all atoms of an element were identical, different elements had atoms of differing size and mass.
- Compounds are formed by a combination of two or more different kinds of atoms.These were the building blocks of atomic theory.
