In this scene, the horse's have been shot during the bombardment, and are screaming and crying in pain. Detering and some other soliders are watching this and become emotional. Detering being a farmer took this seriously and was affected by this, so he wanted to shoot the horses to put them out of there misery. Also shoot the enemies as well.
Slide: 2
In this scene, they were hiding in the whole and there was a soldier named fair-headed recruit. He was so scared he huddle up next to Paul so he could protect him. Paul looked out for him. But then the fair-headed recruit was so scared he pooped in his pants.
Slide: 3
In this scene Paul, Kat and some other soldiers are in a grave yard. They are suddenly bombarded. During this attack, they stumble upon a new recruit during this battle. This new recruit was the boy from earlier that pooped in his pants. The boy got shot in his hip and they helped bandage him up. He was in immense pain. Paul and Kat question if they should put him out of his misery due to the pain plus he is liability. They decided to do it until, witnesses appeared around them so they could not take action.
