  • Navigation Acts - 1651
  • No can do. The British have passed laws that make sure that we can only sell to them.
  • Captain, we are right next to Spain, I hear that they give some good money for the cargo we have to sell.
  • What?! How is that fair. First we have to sell all our raw materials to them so that they can manufacture it and sell it to us at a much higher price. Now, we aren't even allowed to trade with other nations!!
  • Stamp Act - 1765
  • Its an act called the Stamp Act. All paper products now have a stamp which has tax.
  • That will be 2 dollars plus 10 cents for tax.
  • Thats just rubish. How can the British tax without even asking for our consent. After all, it is we who live here.
  • I swear that this must be much cheaper... Wait a minute, what is that stamp.
  • Quartering Act - 1765
  • OUT. GET OUT. I DEMAND YOU!!!
  • Hello, sir, I need to stay in your house for a couple of days. Please prepare a room and food for me
  • Sir, You can't kick me out. I can come in at my pleasure. Failure to comply will result in an arrest.
  • This is all because the British don't want us to develop a manufacturing industry so they can profit out of it. Its so unfair.
  • The Navigation Acts were a series of acts passed by the British Parliament in 1651 that restricted and regulated trade in the colonies so that products and raw materials produced in the colonies could only be exported to the British for the purpose of limiting manufacturing in the colonies. The importance of the Navigation Acts was that they were some of the first restrictions put on the colonies in order for the British to pay off debt. Colonists would smuggle goods as an act of rebellion.
  • Boston Massacre - 1770
  • You monsters, you kill your own people!!!
  • You attacked first!!! FIRE!!
  • The Stamp Act was a set of taxes that was issued on the colonies by the British in 1765. The act states that all paper products made in will require a stamp. The Stamp Act was a significant tax as it was the first set of direct taxes on the colonies. The response to the Stamp Act by the colonies was outraged as the British were taxing without the colony's consent. Riots became so much of a problem that the Stamp Act was repealed. In many ways, the Stamp Act is important because it started the tensions between the British and the colonies that would last until the war broke out.
  • Intolerable Acts - 1774
  • I know, but the British only care about their own economy, not ours.
  • Due to the colonists inexcusable behavior. The Massachusetts Government will be under our control. The Boston Harbor is closed until the destruction is paid for. The Quartering Act shall be reinstated. There will be no town meetings without permission and all British officials charged with capital offence shall have a trial in England or another colony.
  • The Quartering Act was an act issued in 1765 that stated that the colonists had to house and take care of British soldiers. This act enraged colonists as now soldiers could come into their own property uninvited and demand proper treatment. To add on, colonists had to pay tax in order to pay for the soldiers during peacetime. Colonists thought this was unnecessary and unfair. The significance of the Quartering act was that it further increased tensions in the colonies as resentment for the British began to build.
  • 2nd Continental Congress - 1775
  • Britain has neglected all of our cries of unfairness and has even assaulted us. We shall try the Olive Branch Petition. But if it is rejected, It is time that we gain our independence. It is time for WAR!!
  • On March 5, 1770, a mob gathered in Boston to protest against the unfair taxes that had been placed on the colonies. They began to jeer a group of British soldiers. As time passed, they started throwing rocks and assaulting the soldiers. In self-defense, the soldier fired on the crowd killing 3 people. This event would be known as the Boston Massacre. The Boston Massacre is important because it was a significant turning point in history as this was the first time people died in the tensions between the British and Colonists. The colonists saw this as tyranny by the British who wanted to restrict freedom in the colonies. For many, this was the point of no return.
  • No Taxation
  • The Intolerable or Coercive Acts were a series of laws passed as punishment for the Boston Tea Party where the Sons of Liberty destroyed tea crates as rebellion. The Intolerable Acts closed the Boston harbor until the destroyed tea was paid for. It changed Massachusett's government and strengthened the Quartering Act. The major significance of the Intolerable Acts was that this was the final straw between many colonists. They are tired of being under the tyrannical rule of the British and getting nothing out of it except political and economical struggles.
  • This is an OUTRAGE!
  • The 2nd Continental Congress was a meeting of delegates across the 13 colonies on May 10, 1775. The 2nd Continental Congress served as an emergency government for the colonies as it raised an army, making strategies, and handling diplomacy. The Second Continental Congress was an invaluable part of the war effort as it organized the colonies during and after the Revolutionary War.
