Storyboard Text

  • Exposition
  • "That is, not to bestow my younger daughter before I have a husband for the elder."
  • Rising Action 1
  • "Petruchio, shall I then come roundly to thee and wish thee to a shrewed ill-favored wife?
  • Rising Action 2
  • "To me she is married, not unto my clothes."
  • Hortensio and Gremio are suitors trying to win over Baptista's daughter, Bianca. However, Baptista announced her sister, Katherine, must marry before Bianca can. Meanwhile, Lucentio falls in love with Bianca as his servent, Tranio observes.
  • Climax
  • "The poorest service is repaid with thanks and so shall mine before you touch the meet"
  • Hortensio convinces his friend, Petruchio, who's looking for a bride, to marry Katherine. Petruchio decides he'll try to marry/woo Katherine for both the wealth, and the satisfaction of Bianca's suitors.
  • Falling Action
  • "The sun it is not if you say its not."
  • Petruchio receives Baptista's consent to marry Katherine. Petruchio arrives late to the ceremony and isn't dressed appropriately for the occasion. Already executing his plan to "tame" Katherine, he's rude to her and insists she leaves with him early.
  • Resolution
  • "Thy husband is thy Lord, thy life, thy keeper, thy head, thy sovereign, one that cares for thee..."
  • As according to Petruchio's plan to "tame" Katherine, he had starved and deprived her of sleep for days. He refuses to feed her until she thanks him. This marks the transition to Katherine beginning to obey her husband.
  • Now, Katherine obeys anything Petruchio tells her. On their way to Padua, she agrees with him that the sun is the moon, vice versa. Instead of following along with Petruchio, she respects Vincentio because he told her to.
  • All of the characters meet together at Bianca and Lucentio's wedding banquet. When Petruchio, Lucentio, and Hortensio make a bet on who's wife will be the most obedient, Petruchio wins to everyone's surprise. Kate gives a speech to the other women about their wifely duties.
