  • NOOOO!
  • After Eurydice's death Orpheus decided to go to the land of the dead, a place where no living creature had ever returned to rescue someone. He entered the palace of Hades and Persephone, he sang his love for Eurydice and said she was taken too soon. Hades and Persephone granted on his plea only on one condition, he cannot turn around to see if Eurydice was following him. If he did she would return to the land of the dead forever.
  • resolution - lesson/explanation
  • When he was separatedfrom Eurydice, Orpheus swore to never love another woman again. Instead he sat in a grove of trees and sang songs of lovers. A group of wild women called the Maenads, couldn't bear the thought of a poet who sang so well of love would not love them. Their jealousy drove them crazy and they destroyed Orpheus.
  • After each step he took he worried more and more if Eurydice was behind him. He had heard no footsteps so where was she? Finally, just before he took his last step out of the underworld, he gave into temptation, and Eurydice was sent back to the underworld forever.
  • AHHHH!
  • The lesson from this is that you shouldn't try to hold on to everything, Orpheus couldn't let go of Eurydice's death which just brought him grief. So if something bad happens, for example a loved persons death, don't hold onto it so badly. It's not bad if you're sad but don't over do anything about it, whatever it is.
