- There were higher rates of unemployment. The levels rose from 1.4 million in 1928 to 6 million in 1932. People additionally suffered year on year wage as well as unemployment benefit decreases.
- The communists said the failure of the Weimar constitution showed how the capitalist system did not work in Germany. They also pointed out it was the workers who suffered the consequences of this failure as they would lose their jobs and be unable to support their family.

- After 1929 the National Party which had previously been attracted to by big businesses in Germany had been in decline, so industrialists began to favour Hitler as an alternative. A few wealthy business owners such as Krupps and Siemens gave money to the Nazis to promote their message.

- In the SA, the Nazis had a stronger private army than their main rivals - The Communists. The SA was a vital factor in the NSDAP's growth. In 1930, the SA had 400,000 members and their presence at Nazi Party rallies helped the Nazis appear stronger. Parades and Marches were also organised by mobile Nazi units.
- The Nazi party trained its members in local groups on propaganda skills, It focused on popular messages and was quick to adapt its messages if they began to lose support. The Nazis owned eight different newspapers with each being aimed to sell the Nazi message to a particular audience.
- The extremist parties started attracting more interest as they offered radical solutions to the depression. Both support for the communists and Nazis rose rapidly.
