  • Where am I?Am I where I think I am?
  • Swing low, sweet chariotComing for to carry me homeSwing low, sweet chariot
  • Hi I am Mary. How long have you been here?
  • Hello I am Sarah, I was born here.
  • After a long day of work at the museum surrounded by toxic masculinity, Mary came home to cook herself a comfort meal. Mary has just finished cooking herself dinner. As she walks to the table to sit down, she is taken away.
  • Where are your parents?
  • My mother was sold. I don't know where she is. My father was killed.
  • Mary looked around to find herself on a plantation, hearing the sound of "Swing low, sweet chariot". Mary realized what time she was in based on the song as well as her prior knowledge as a historian. Mary knew that that the “band of angles” referred to the conductors of the Underground Railroad (sweet chariot), who would soon come south (swing low), to guide the slaves north to freedom (carry me home).
  • Hush. What is wrong with you? What are you doing? Are you trying to get killed?
  • Hello, do you know when we head out? Sorry Sorry Sorry.
  • Mary spent hours in the field all day and during that time she made friends with the child, Sarah, next to her.
  • Whhh...whhh...what did I do?I am so sorry.
  • Don’t you ever...EVER do that again! You could have gotten us killed just now or gotten everyone killed.
  • Mary spent the time on the planation to learn as much about Sarah as she possibly could. Mary learned that Sarah's mother got sold to another planation because she was a good breeder and her father was killed in front of her eyes for protecting her from their owner who wanted to do as he pleased with her.
  • After a long day on working on the planation, they were allowed to go 'home' now. So Mary followed all of the unmarried women to their chambers and began talking to Jane. Mary spoke freely forgetting where and when she was.
  • After getting inside Jane began to yell at Mary because she was discussing their escape in the open. Jane struck Mary heated in rage about what she had just done. Jane told Mary when they were to leave and where they were to meet.
