As Stella helps Kennedy move into her new apartment, Kennedy tries asking more about Stella's life. " She'd imagined, more than once, telling her daughter the truth, about Mallard, and Desiree, and New Orleans" (Bennett 292). This represents how Stella wants to tell her daughter the truth but she has lived a lie for so long it would be hard to tell her. This battle within herself is what Stella faces almost day to day.
