- "Ligeia" is considered a romantic text because Poe rejects society's idea of beauty by pointing out his wife's flaws and features. This is an emphasis on HIS idea of an aesthetic beauty.
- Another romantic characteristic in "Ligeia" is the rejection of society'.
- "The Raven" is also considered a romantic text because it shows an interest in the supernatural. The bird has the ability to speak and even answers all of the narrator's questions.
- Right. That is not something birds should be doing—creepy. To add on, the narrator is using his power of imagination to see the Raven whom he sees as the Devil or the Devil's minion.
- Both of these texts present romantic characteristics that are quite dark. Although, I do see some renaissance characteristics like beauty and "the heightening of the mind".
- You are right. I see the heightening of the mind in "The Raven" where the narrator is discovering that the Raven can see his past, present, and future. I think both types of literatures and eras are quite similar.
