  • Slide: 1
  • Since you stole that candy bar, you're going to be imprisoned forever.
  • But that's too extreme, shouldn't the laws ban this?
  • This violates the 8th Amendment where cruel or unusual punishments are not allowed. Doing something like stealing a candy bar shouldn't be met with something like being imprisoned for life. The example shown in this slide proves that without this amendment, life would be very different.
  • Slide: 2
  • Why are you in my house?
  • The government can have soldiers in your house whenever we want.
  • This example shows the violation of the 3rd Amendment which says that soldiers are not allowed to go to other people's houses without permission even during wars. This citizen has the right to disapprove of the government's decision. Without this amendment, soldiers would be allowed to break into someone's house and stay there.

  • Your trail will be in seven months, you have to stay in jail for now.
  • But that isn't fair, I should have a quick trail.
  • This action violates the 6th Amendment that allows the right to a quick and speedy trail. This citizen has to wait seven months in jail just for their trail which is a direct violation to the 6th Amendment. Without this amendment, many more people might have to suffer the same consequences.
