On 28 September of 1066, Duke William The Bastard of Normandy landed at Pevensey. The wind changed 2 days after the battle of Stamford Bridge and that same day William's army set sail with 600 transport ship that carried 7000 men to invade England. Duke William thought that he was the rightful heir of the English throne as he was chose by King Edward the Confessor. After that, they set camp in a nearby town called Hastings.
Ok, that's coolI guess.
Duke, Thou already got a grip of England soil. Those English peasants are no match for my legendary skill level in swordsmanship.
Meanwhile, King Harold Godwine was at York which was roughly about 250 miles away from Duke William. King Harold had just won the battle of Stamford Bridge on 25th September 1066 but his celebrations were cut short because of Duke William. He immediately ordered his exhausted and weak army to return back to London.
If every single enemy of our lord is a golden coin, I am going to be so rich!
Terrible news, my lord!William of Normandy landed on the south coast.
I regret being born, ain't no way I am fighting another war
I have just won a battle, now another one? I feel like I am cursed.
And so, King Harold began his long march back to London for York. His army was weak and his soldiers were reduced in number because of the war with Hardrada. However, he was going to call some more from different shires to face off Duke William. After the battle, he was very confident in his skills and leadership that he thought he would defeat Duke William easily.
Hmmmm, I will definitely beat William. Easy win. I could just win him in 30 minutes.
