  • Hi my names Jadeyn, and today I wanted to go over the Civil War. No......................not the one with Captain America
  • People used to live in homes like these.
  • okay
  • It's time to go home.
  • IT all started in the 1800s.
  • Guess how it started, how most wars start, Arguing
  • We want slaves!Only our religion!
  • No more slaves!We don't judge!
  • Basically on the left, we have citizens whom only cared about themselves. Unlike the right, which was full of people who want to make the world a better place. You just witnessed the sight of an argument between slaves and religion.
  • 1820
  • 1850
  • 1860
  • First in the 1820's, Missouri Compromise consisted of 12 free states and 12 slave states. Slavery was forbidden in the Louisiana Territory north of the " Missouri Compromise Line " ( 36 30'N ), EXCEPT Missouri. Now in 1850, there was The Fugitive Act. The United States had acquired a vast territory -- the result of its war with Mexico. At that time there was a question knocking on peoples doors, weather there would be slaves or not. Also California joins the Union as a free state. Compromise of 1850 included the " Fugitive Slave Act" which required citizens to return escaped slaves. Dred Scott was actually a slave who escaped to a free country, he had to fill out paper work to become a true citizen and not a slave anymore. But before 1860, on 1859 John Brown was executed for his raid on 5 pro-slavery settlers. The North felt that Brown was a hero, the South were glad, and his death brings the slavery issue to the boiling point.
  • Last but not least, the founding of Republican Party and the Election of 1860. The 1860 election was compared to a nation coming apart, yes it was that bad. Lincoln won the election, but even though he won he didn't win a single Southern state. Bad news for Lincoln, the South is afraid that Lincoln will try to abolish slavery in the United States.
  • There were a lot of wars in the Civil War, but I only have the top six. The first battle of the civil war was The Battle of Bull Run. Bull run was the very first battle and had a southern victory. The were two Battle of the Bull Runs, this first one was also known as First Battle of Manassas. The date was July 21, 1861 and the result was a Confederate Victory. Now the second battle was The battle of Antietam, also known as The Battle of Sharpsburg. Th date was September 17, 1862 and this battle took place at Shapsburg, MD.The third Battle is the Battle of Gettysburg, This battle took place in Pennsylvania, by the Union and Confederate Gen. The date was July 1-3, 1863, and the result is a Union Victory. The fourth battle was Vicksburg, the siege of Vicksburg was the final major military action in the Vicksburg campaign of the American Civil War. The dates were May 18, 1863-July 4, 1863.The fifth battle was The Battle of Petersburg and Battle of Richmond. To prevent any further losses of man, Lee set up a defense. The Union took Petersburg on April 2, 1865.
  • The sixth and final battle is The Battle of Sabine pass, this took place on September 8, 1863 and the result of a failed Union army attempt.
  • A lot of speeches were being made at the time. The first Proclamation that was made that I know of is The Emancipation Proclamation, which President Lincoln issued. The Proclamation was issued on January 1, 1863, as this approached the third year of Civil War. This Proclamation stated " That all persons held as slaves are, and henceforward shall be free. " This Proclamation disturbed the South and ended all chance of British or French intervention. Secondly I have The Gettysburg Address, Lincoln delivered this during the American Civil War at the dedication of the soldiers. Which was November 19, 1863. But Lincoln only spoke for a total of three minutes .
  • The people who lived in the South hated things that would go on in the North. Therefore, this leads me to the fact that they are separated into north and south just because, they are separated because of what they agree with and what they disagree with.
  • ashdjajshNow lets talk about North vs. South.SOUTH North and South have there differences of course, but what are they?North- 23 states- Flag "Rebel"- 22 million people- Weak military leader- Abraham Lincoln- The GreySouth- 11 states- Flag " Old Glory"- 9 million people- Strongest military leader-Jefferson Davis- The Blue
  • There are a total five people that I'm going to talk about. But first we are going to go through the slides of everyone.
  • Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in 1858 Lincoln ran for senator of Illinois. He ran against Stephen A. Douglas, but Lincoln unfortunately lost. But good for Lincoln he was elected the 16th President of the United States (1861-1865) Actually Lincoln used to be a commander in chief as well, before Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booths on April 15, 1865. Davis was a U.S. Senator for Mississippi. As the Confederate president, Davis failed to raisesufficient money to fight the American Civil War andcould not obtain recognition and help for theConfederacy from foreign governments. After the war he was charged with treason and forbidden to run for office President again.
  • Ulysses S. Grant was born in 1822 and passed away 1885. Most of us didn't know that Ulysses was actually our 18th President, from (1869- 1877) He was apart of the major victory, and the battle was Battle of Vicksburg. Lincoln appointed him General-in-Chief in March 1864. Grant directed Sherman to drive through the South while he, with the Army of the Potomac, pinned down Gen.

On April 9, 1865, Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grantat the village of Appomattox Court House. After the war he served as president of Washington andLee University in Lexington, VA .

  • There were three plans that were presented in trying to bring about the reconstruction of the U.S.Now lets see these idea plans .

  • 1.Offered amnesty upon simple oath to all except Confederate Civil and military officers and those with property over $20,000.
  • Johnson's Plan
  • 2,Pardoned planter aristocrats brought them to political power to control state organizations.
  • 2.In new constitutions, they must accept minimum conditions repudiating slavery, secession and state debts.
  • 3.Named provisional governors in Confederate states and called them to oversees elections for constitutional conventions.
  • 3.Republicans were outraged that planter elite were back in power in the South !
  • This act put Southern states ( excluding Tennessee ) under military rule ( martial law).
  • This act divided the ten states into five military districts.
  • The Radical Republicans took a firmer stand by passing the Reconstruction Act of 1867.
  • Congress was angered by confederate states refusing to ratify the 14th amendment.
  • CongressionalPlan
  • The 13 Amendment(1865)Abolish slavery in all states and territories.
  • Impact of the Amendments
  • The 14 Amendment(1866) U.S. citizenship was defined as all persons born or naturalized in the U.S.This amendment based representation in Congress on all the people of the state.
  • The 15 Amendment(1869)r The right to vote could not be denied or abridged because of race, color, or
  • For many freemen ( a person who has been freed from slavery ) life was not easy.
  • Freedom Hardships
  • Many didn't have jobs or homes, some looked for long lost relatives., Some established communities called “Freedtowns”., Some traveled to the city searching for work. , Some remained on the plantationworking for wages or a portion of the crop.

  • They provided: Food, Shelter,Medicine and job hunting assistance.
  • The 13 Amendment to the Constitution was passed.
  • Slaves are Free
  • The 13 Amendment made slavery illegal forever in the U.S.
  • With the ending of the war the slaves were now free
  • Amendments
  • Hi again, remember me? We have gone over everything that I needed to go over which is great. Now it's time to review what we have learned to make sure we understand it for further more assignments or such.
  • First we learned about where they live in the civil war and what they argued about. They argued about slavery (which was one main reason for the civil war) and religion.
  • Thirdly, I included a total of six. In each war I added, I also put the date and the outcome of the war. If you want to know exactly which battles I listed, they are up above.
  • Now on number four, we have just started talking about the proclamations. And the difference between the North and the South. Now if you could excuse me.
  • Now we are on number five, speaking of five. There are also five important people that I talked about. Those people were Abraham Lincoln, Jefferson Davis, Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, and Clara Carton. Next I have entered two plans and three Amendments. I also added three things of my own. First off, the two plans were Johnson's plan and the Congressional plan. Then the three Amendments I included were the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth. Now the three things I have chosen to add information about is Freedom Hardships, Freemen's Bureau, and lastly, Slaves are free. And then we ....... Just kidding that's really all we did it just looks lengthy. In conclusion, we have learn what life was like and all that happened, in the Civil War. Once again, not Captain America.
