SIddhartha started off his life as a prince, there was a prophecy made that said he would either become a great king or a homeless holy man, depending on how much suffering he saw. all suffering was kept hidden away from him, however he wanted to go out of the palace grounds and see what was out there, he was exposed to lots of suffering, he decided to leave everything behind and go to seek the truth, he masters meditation, puts himself through extremes and meditates for 49 days straight until he finally finds the truth, the four noble truths and the eight fold path.

he mediated for 49 days because he thought it was the only way to discover the truth, however he was tempted by Mara who represents sensual desire and death, he corrupts the mind. Mara tries to seduce the Buddha with his daughters, however this does not work. Siddhartha feels a unimaginable feeling of joy and a awakening known as the enlightenment
He was known to his followers as the Buddha or the awakened one, they were unsure of what to call him. They would ask what are you? a god, a demon, a angel? to which the Buddha would respond i am awake
