Within the school systems minority students have been more subjected to discipline than those who are not minorities. This brings me concern not only for the students safety but also their education. Disciplining takes away from their time of learning and it also is discouraging for the student to feel excited to be at school and learning if they are feeling targeted by the school system. The constant disciplining and lecturing will affect their self-esteem and confidence. When a student's self-esteem or confidence in themselves is broken, it makes it difficult for them to believe that they have the ability to learn or to finish school. This is a bigger issue than children getting in trouble. It is an issue that affects the student as a whole. Whether that be mentally, physically or emotionally.

According to a school study in the year 2020-21 it was noticed that students of black origin were disproportionately more disciplined than other students from kindergarten to 12th grade. Black students are three times more to get expelled than white peers and are four times likely to face suspension than white peers.
As a whole, society needs to join together to bring attention to this. We need to teach educators that it is not okay to target children just because they are minorities. Children need to be treated equally and provided the same amount of respect. As adults and educators, teacher's jobs are to make sure the child is comfortable and learning. Educators that use discrimination to punish children have no room in education. We need to protect the students and children who are facing discrimination from the people who are supposed to provide help.
