Daedalus, is an architect and was hired to build a maze by King Minos. Daedalus and King Minos had great relationships at first but it starts to deteriorate when he helped Theseus to escape from the Labyrinth. In consequence, he was imprisoned along with his son Icarus in a tower.
Daedalus was way too smart and inventive, thus, he started to think on how he and Icarus would escape the Labyrinth. Knowing that his architectural creation was way too complicated, he figured out that they could not come out on foot. He also knew that the shores of Crete were guarded, thus, they would not be able to escape by sea either. Their only way left was the air.
Due to his creativity and architectural creation, Daedalus managed to create a gigantic wings, using a branches of osier and connected them with a wax.
He taught his son Icarus on how to fly, but warned him to keep away from the sun because the heat would make the wax melt and it can destroy their wings.
Daedalus and Icarus managed to escape the Labyrinth and flew to the sky freely. Although Icarus was warned by his father, Icarus was too young and too enthusiastic about flying and carried away by the amazing feeling of freedom and started flying high to salute the sun, diving low to the sea, and then high up again.
His father Daedalus was trying in vain to make young Icarus to understand that this behavior was dangerous, and Icarus soon saw his wings melting. Then Icarus fell into the sea and drowned. The Icarian Sea, where he fell was named after him.
