  • Henrietta told her doctors how she believed her cancer was spreading but the doctors couldn't find anything and didn't listen to her. In the 1950s doctors would avoid upsetting patients with frightening terms such as cancer so they wouldn't proceed with any diagnoses.

  • In 1951 in Baltimore, segregation was law which meant that black people didn't receive the same care n hospitals as whites.
  • The Family
  • Henrietta went back to the hospital due to abdomen pain but was sent back home and she returned back again. The doctors did an x-ray and saw that she was ill but they decided to send her home.

  • Henrietta's children and husband would go visit her on the first few days but since it will upset her so much, visits weren't allowed after. Day by day she will become more weak and couldn't get up and one of her doctors tried helping but new tumors would appear and overtime passed away.
