  • I have missed the bus to school! I need to get the driver's attention.
  • Hey! Stop! I need to get on the bus!
  • This music is really good... Am I hearing something? Must be a bird.
  • I've lost my voice from yelling! He can't hear me now. I will have to get his attention through gestures.
  • Encoding: Student has missed bus to school and needs to convey that to stop driver.
  • Why is that guy making gestures? Wait, that's one of the students who goes on this bus! He's asking me to stop.
  • Channel: Air (through sound)Message: Student alerts driver that he is running behind the bus and needs to get onDecoding: The driver hears, but is unable to identify what the sound is because of the barrier.External Noise/Barrier: The bus driver is listening to music and cannot hear the student.
  • It's a good thing he saw me. Otherwise I would have been late. He hasn't opened the doors though.
  • Internal Noise/Barrier: The student has lost his voice and cannot communicate with the driver.Encoding: The student decides he needs to tell the driver to stop through the use of gestures.

  • Encoding: The student feels thankful that the bus driver stopped for him.
  • Channel: Air (through sound)Message: The student thanks the driver for stopping and asks him to open the doors for the bus.Decoding: The bus driver understands his message and opens the doors and wants to let him know that he should get in.Feedback: The driver informs the student the doors are open and tells the student to enter.
