- Bella cuts her arm and finger at the birthday party that her boyfriend Edward, and his family have thrown for her. This causes Edward and his family to be set off, causing one of them to attack Bella
- Initial Dialogue or Event
- Propels The Action By...
- "Bella we're leaving" (68).
- This causes Edward to be distant with Bella because he is not good for her and he knows that. He starts to act cold toward Bella, and is not as close as he used to be with her.
- Outcome
- The event at Bella's birthday party also causes Edward and his family to realize that it is time for them to leave their current "home," Forks. They must leave because they do not age, and they cannot risk people finding out.
- Edward tells Bella that he must leave, and never see her again. This really hurts Bella because she loves Edward. She tries to argue but he eventually leaves with Bella trying to chase after him unsuccessfully.
- Bella gets lost eventually in the woods, still engulfed by the sadness of Edward being gone. She doesn't realize how much time has gone by or where she is, until they come find her. Later that night when she goes home, she goes to her room and find that all traces of Edwards existence is gone.
